Becoming certified as a BPI Building Analyst is the beginning step in becoming a home weatherization professional. This basic certification allows one to work with homeowners to examine their residence for how efficiently it consumes energy and an analyst can suggest methods for making things more efficient. This certification does not have any prerequisites and the course can be completed in about five days. The job outlook for this field is quite strong and growing as home weatherization professionals are in great demand.Students taking BPI training for becoming a BPI Building Analyst will learn the basics of energy systems within the home, the “home as a system” approach, weatherization techniques and will learn to analyze the many variables that improve or decrease energy efficiency within a home. Training will include both classroom and field components and a number of analysis tools will be used and explained. Once the testing for the course is finished students will be prepared to work with residential homeowners to find solutions to their energy efficiency problems, helping them to make improvements and save substantial money within their home. Once this initial certification is obtained, professionals may want to pursue additional training and certifications as well.
